I've made close to 150 afghans during the past 30 years and most of them have been large in size as they have either been sold or given to my family. I LOVE afghans! It could be hot outside in the middle of summer and you could still find me with an afghan because they're comfy and comforting.

A couple of them are just basic stitches and easy for beginners to work up, but most of them, I really tried stepping outside of the box with different crochet stitches and designing unique afghans for everyone to enjoy.

I searched and searched the Basket Weave crochet stitch and everything that I found was designed in straight rows.
It was fun to figure out how to get it to work in the Chevron style!
The Ribbon Candy Afghan is worked Corner To Corner and has a beautiful swirling ribbon effect when 2 different colors are used. This stitch is in a stitch book, but working it C2C was my way of making it unique.

How do you feel about Braid stitches? I had always been intimidated by them until I designed the Braided Cable Chevron Afghan crochet pattern for the Battle of the Stitches crochet challenge. The Braids in this design are worked in the center of each "Peak" of the blanket. It's a fun stitch to work and Beautiful when finished!
After using a small cable, I couldn't just stop there! I HAD to try a larger braid, so I jumped right into the Classic Cable Chevron Afghan which was designed for my Brother In-Law's mother for her Christmas gift. Again, the Braids are worked up the Peak of the chevron while the diamond shaped stitch is worked in the valleys. I absolutely loved this design and may have to make another one just for me.

The Baby Tay Afghan crochet pattern was designed to coordinate with the Baby Tay Infant and Toddler dresses but is written to easily work to your own desired size. It has a beautiful light texture to it's ripple design and flows wonderfully when made with Caron Simply Soft yarn.
The Brick Stitch Afghan is one of my Go-To patterns when I need something quick to work up. It's a really simple yet fun to work stitch that many people use for Corner-to-Corner afghans only this one is worked in straight rows. It's available here on my blog for free or if you prefer PDF, it can be purchased in my shop.

With the Diamond Burst Chevron Afghan, I thought it would be fun to play up some post stitches to highlight the peaks of the chevron. When you think of "Afghan" or "Blanket" typically, you think cold weather and to keep warm, right? Well, sometimes it's nice to have a light weight throw to use or something really pretty just to drape over a chair or bed.
