Along with Crocheting and Gardening, I was blessed to be in a musical family. I was able to take 1 year of piano lessons when I was quite young and then the teacher quit to go back to work. I was very sad! My 2 older sisters had taken lessons for a while and could play quite well and I wanted to be able to also. So, I started to teach myself. I learned to play by ear - which drove them crazy at the time and I had some not so nice comments on many occasions...BUT, I never gave up. Although they remain better at piano playing than I ever will be, I was able to teach myself enough that I played for our choir concerts in High School and I play for the Young Women in our church now. We were all blessed with the ability to sing also. We were all in choirs in school and sang at funerals and in church. I LOVE music! It is comforting to sit down and play the piano to sing. I also am excited that this love has been passed down to all 3 of my girls. Madtie has also been in choirs in school and sang in church and usually has a solo in each concert and I am proud of her. The 2 little ones are into making up their own songs and singing along to the radio in the car. It's amazing how many words they actually catch on to while listening to the radio.
My questions for today's giveaway is this: Do you play any musical instruments? Are you good at singing, or should you only sing in the shower or car when nobody else is around?
Leave your answer along with your name and email address so I can contact you if you win. Please tell me if you are a fan of Crafting Friends or Shop Around Baby on FaceBook or both. I will tally the comments and choose a winner through Random.org at 9pm tonight (7-7-12). This is just for fun to show thanks to those of you who interact with my page :)

ReplyDeleteI am a singer. I have done country music shows and once sang the national anthem at a St. Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves baseball game. My name is Debbie Nolen at debozark@msn.com. I am a fan of Crafting Friends on facebook.
ReplyDeleteThat is Awesome Debbie!
DeleteI play a bunch of instruments! I started with piano at age 8 and took lessons for that into high school and have been playing at church now for quite a few years, took up the flute in elementary school for band, didn't think I was good enough to make the jr. high band so in 6th grade started learning the french horn which i played through high school in band and orchestra, when home-schooling my son, I taught him to play the saxophone while learning it myself, can manage a few chords on a guitar, and play the autoharp....a bit of harmonica...irish tin whistle...and some others i'm forgetting! I am a natural low alto, in fact I often find it near impossible to sing the melody because I just automatically hear and sing harmony! My church forms a special Christmas Eve choir every year, and along with being the pianist I also sing along with the male tenors (they seem to appreciate the help!) I am a FB fan of Crafting Friends. Love and prayers!
ReplyDeleteCara Louise, reitbauer3@yahoo.com
Wow! Very accomplished and yes Tenors usually seem to appreciate help as there are normally less of them (at least from my experience)
DeleteThe closest I come to playing music is the xylophone with my grandchildren. Me singing is a threat worse than death to my kids. Use to tell my youngest son if he couldn't get to school on time I'd walk him to his class singing "Ok Rickie you're so fine". Since his name is Richard, changing it to Richie worked.
ReplyDeleteI am a friend of Crafting Friends but am going to check out Shop Around Baby now that I know about it.

DeleteI took piano lessons for many years. During elementary and high school, I also learned how to play the clarinet and the trumpet. I tried to teach myself the guitar but did not have much luck.

I guess I am musical. I played the cello extensively when I was younger, but to be honest I have not picked it up in years. I taught myself to play basic flute, haven't done that in a long time either. I also basically taught myself some piano, but don't do it often enough to say that I am good. At this point in my life I mostly use my skills to help my own children with piano and guitar lessons.
ReplyDeleteI do not sing, except for in large groups like at church. I am a fan of your crafting friends site.

I love music too! I can sing, but I've never really caught onto how to read music. When I was in highschool we would have Spring Night Club each year. It was a big production. We sang America The Beautiful and I learned how to sign it. So when we sang it I stood in he front and did sign language. It was so neat!

DeleteI am a fan of both
I took piano lessons for a short time when I was young as well as participated in school band playing the trombone and then trumpet, but I wasn't good any any of them! I love to sing, but don't think I have any skill so keep it limited to at home and sometime in the car! :o)

Kate, I admire your many talents. I don't know how you fit them all in!! You must never sleep!! LOL I play the piano although not as well as I would like. Have sang in multiple choirs although now my church is too small to have a choir. During hymms, I still belt out a pretty good alto harmony though. In high school played saxophone-both tenor and bari and occas. the baritone. In my youth I also I played the hand bells at my childhood church. I can strum a few chords on a guitar. That's about it. 4 kids and other that listening to music, none of them acquired any talent or desire. Made them all take band and we had quite a band-trumpet, clarinet, sax, and trombone. but none of them really liked it. :(

DeleteOh the torture that music can be to some kids, but honestly, I think it's easier to learn things though music - and they all survived it - right?
DeleteI am unable to play any musical instrument. I do enjoy singing at church but only with the rest of the congreation. I am a fan of Crafting Friends. Martha S.

I don't feel like I'm a terrific singer, but I have always loved music. Mine and my husband's love if music was passed down to my kids. They both love music and go to a lot of concerts. My son plays the guitar as well. Whether I sing well or not doesn't really matter, I guess, but I am constantly singing or humming. My name is Angela Harper and my email address is harperam@hotmail.com. I do not play any instruments but I wish I'd spent the time it takes to learn to play guitar. Love Crafting Friends!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to read all of these! Ok...so I did take piano lessons and can play an child version of Swan Lake. I did play the clarinet & base clarinet in band in the 7th & 8th grades. That's about it! But...we are huge fans of music at the Ventura household. We have many of dance parties on regular bases...my boys have some mad skills! I'm a fan of both pages...of course...and I'm pretty sure you have me email ;)
ReplyDeleteI've played so many different instruments over the years that I've lost track! Piano, guitar, drums, flute, etc, etc. I love singing and do it as often as I can. I was in choir and vocal jazz and had a few solos too :) I'm hoping my daughter will have the same love for music too. Candice redcandy at live dot ca

Yes,I am musical. I have played piano for 48 years & completed Grade 8 Royal Conservatory with 1st Class Honors:) Sang well, natural contralto, regularly assisting the tenors but am now deaf in one ear & find harmony much more difficult. Can still carry a tune however:) I would be soul-less without music! penny911@hotmail.com I'm definitely a fan!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of Crafting Friends!
ReplyDeleteI'm not musical in any way. Really my kids ask me not to sing along! Lol. My kids are musical though. My oldest is a natural on the piano, and my son is teaching himself from watching YouTube. My youngest just likes to pound away on the keys! Lol! Melissa. mlodahl22@gmail.com
I am a fan of crafting friends. I play the flute/piccolo. I learned in 6th grade and played through senior year. Marching band/pep band/concert band. I also dabbled with guitar (self taught) and my very first instrument was the recorder in elementary school. Needless to say I love music. I am not great at singing, but I like to sing. I sing at church and in the car mostly! lol Thanks!!
