Skill Level:   I would consider this an Intermediate skill level though I will have many photos showing stitch placement.

Crochet hook: Size I/9-5.50mm
Finished Size: 4' diameter

Yarn: I used Deborah Norville Everyday yarn
 - 2 skeins (406 yrds) Pine Green
 - 5 skeins (1015 yrds) White
You are welcome to use a single color or more than 2 colors.  Have fun with it and make it in colors you will love for a long time.  Other 4ww yarns will also work, your size may vary based on the yarn though unless you watch your gauge and adjust your hook size accordingly.

Gauge: I will have a few gauge check points along the way so you can adjust your hook size if needed to reach the 4' diameter.

Other materials needed:
1. Yarn needle to weave in ends securely

2. 4 buttons with needle and matching thread for securing
    - I used 1" barrel shaped buttons and secured them to the double crochet rows.  You could use larger buttons and secure them to the treble crochet rows or you could even go without if you prefer
3. sewing needle and thread to stitch on buttons

Note:
If you are comfortable working with 3 skeins of yarn attached to your project at the same time, do not fasten off your yarn at the end of each color section.  At the end of row 2, drop your white yarn and pick up your green yarn.  At the end of row 3, drop your green yarn and pick up a new skein of white yarn.  You will just carry the unused yarn up the edge of the tree skirt and work over it when you work the border.  This will help so you won't have so many ends to weave in when you're finished.

  1. Do you start with the main color or the tree color?

    1. I fixed the post and will be sure to add each color change. I thought I had it there.
      I start with the white

  2. Yes, Jaclie777 has a good question b/c the pattern calls for more than double on the white, so we do need to know which one you do the foundation starting chain with.

  3. Otherwise, it looks good, and I'm looking forward to it. :>)

  4. How do we join? Do we check everyday for the next part of the pattern?

    1. Hi Kim,
I will just be posting 1 row each day on this post, so you can check in here everyday when you're ready to work on it.
If you're on Facebook, you can join the CAL group to ask questions if needed and post progress photos https://www.facebook.com/groups/531832953690041/

  6. Hi, I am slightly late starting, b/c I had to deal with a yarn issue (ripped out a forgotten WIP project to use the white from it b/c it has a bumpy texture that will actually look like snow - thought it would be pretty, plus I have practically the exact amount of white that this calls for & also means I didn't have to go buy more, LOL, #repurposing!), and now I am ready. Your photo tutorial link for the foundation chain keeps taking me to a different website - overstock.com to be exact. I went to the FB page and I am pending a "joining" request. I have done foundation chains before, but was long ago. I can look at a different example, but I thought I would let you know, in case you weren't aware.

  7. You know what? Never mind, it just suddenly worked. There is something wonky about either my browser or this sight, LOL. Sorry!

    1. Hi Kelly, You're not going crazy, I saw your comment and hurried to fix it. I had the links set on "HDC Foundation Chain" and "Click Here". I think you were clicking on "Photo Tutorial" so I hurried and added the link on that too just in case.
      Thanks for letting me know!

    2. Yep! Thanks! I'm liking this. It's my 1st CAL & also new to the PT stitch. Did you make it up?

    3. I'm happy you joined! No, I didn't make this stitch up. It is in the Crochet Stitches Visual Encyclopedia book that Robyn Chachula did. I've always wanted to try it.

    1. Hi Donnisha,
I'm sorry, I don't have photos of this in a single color. I made the green/white one and the pink/white one and all the photos I've seen from others making it have used multiple colors.
      It would be pretty though!
