Shell Brook Afghan Pattern

Red, Blue & Green Shell Brook Afghan Pattern

Shell Brook Afghan

***This pattern has been updated and a PDF is available on www.craftingfriendsdesigns.com for a small fee if you prefer to have the PDF.***

Size: 5' x 4’
Hook Size: F
Gauge: 4 dc & 2 rows = 1”
Materials: 10-12 Skeins Red Heart Super Saver Yarn or similar 4ww yarn

Chain 153 (I use this as my length) = 5' (30 shells)

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook *skip 1 chain space, 7 dc in next chain space, skip next 2 chain spaces, sc in next chain space,* Repeat from *to * across

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, *skip 3 dc, 7 dc in next dc, skip 3 dc, dc in next sc,* repeat from *to* across

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, *skip 3 dc, 7 dc in next dc, skip 3 dc, dc in next dc,* repeat from *to* across

Repeat row 3 until desired width is reached

Fasten off and weave in ends

For this afghan, I used the following color pattern
5 rows Painted Desert
***3 rows Claret
     3 rows Painted Desert
     3 rows Windsor Blue
     3 rows Painted Desert
     3 rows Dark Sage
     3 rows Painted Desert***
repeating ***to*** pattern until I had 4 sections of each solid and ended with 5 rows Painted Desert.

To adjust length, each shell is 2" wide and uses 5 chains, so you can chain 5 for every 2" you want and then add 3 at the end.  Example: (4'=24 shells and 5 ch/shell=120 ch +3 for a total of 123 ch)
(5'=30 shells and 5 ch/shell = 150 ch + 3 for a total of 153 ch)
(6'=36 shells and 5 ch/shell = 180 ch +3 for a total of 183 chains)

  1. Hi. I like this Shell Brook pattern. Did you ever post the Materials that you used and the size of the needle? I would really like to use this pattern for an afghan for my Mother but in colors of variegated greens. I will be watching for your reply. Thanks.

  2. I used a G hook, but I tend to crochet a little on the large size, so you can either use G or H. For the 6' afghan, I used 6 Skeins of RedHeart Super Saver yarn. I'd love to see a picture when you are finished with yours.
